Last week, we read the quote “Change is, to some degree, a mystical experience, but it also comes from willful acts… Its a balance of the two. We can take action to change, yet the timing and the way it happens remains to some degree a mystery.”
These actions don’t need to be huge steps. They include daily things like getting enough sleep, seeing friends, talking honestly with your partner, setting boundaries at work, or making time for a hobby.
Potential journal prompt options:
- One part of change is action. Make two lists. The first is of all the actions you currently take to care for yourself. The second list is of actions you want to take in the future, or that you want to be more consistent about. When you look back over the second list, do you feel resistance to any of the actions?
- This step is about being ready to let go of behaviors, thoughts, about ourselves and areas of shame that keep us stuck. What beliefs or stories about yourself do you have that keep you in the eating disorder cycle? For example, one belief could be, “I’m only valuable when I’m meeting someone else’s needs.” For each belief, write how this belief plays out in your life. So for the belief above, it might be “I worry so much about the people around me I have no idea what I want and need in any situations.” Then, write a sentence about what you could do differently “I will take the time to check in with what I want and need in different situations.”
