
Step Three Traditional Language: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God.
Key components:
- Willingness/willingness to change, even when we’re scared
- Readiness to trust something outside of our eating disorder
- Willingness to accept different parts of ourselves – including parts that are scared and parts that are ready
- Separating our will or the will/strength of our higher power or higher purpose from the will of our eating disorder
- Willingness to accept help and support from people we trust more than we trust our eating disorders
Example alternatives:
- I am making a decision to trust the wisest part of my self and to take action based on that wisdom.
- I made a decision to be there for myself the way I would be there for a friend, and to ask for help and support when I need it.
- I will choose every day to prioritize my own values when faced with decisions big and small.
- When I am scared of the next actions that I know will support my recovery, I will ask the universe for willingness and courage.
- I am strengthening my ability to care for myself the same way I want to care for those I love.
